Torridon – 10/11th October
The club spent the weekend amongst the Torridon giants of Beinn Alligin, Liathach, and Beinn Eighe at Mol Mor. It was a weekend of two halves – typical “dreich” Scottish hill days followed by wonderful blue skies and spectacular cloud inversions. As usual we ate like kings on Saturday evening with wonderful food contributions and […]

Bennachie – 25th September
The club had a very successful mid week walk up Bennachie in nice weather. The route started at Rowantree and followed the Turnpike trail taking in a visit to the Fog house and then the Colony trail to Gordon way and up to Mither Tap with some going on to Craigshannoch.

Galloway – 12th September
The club spent last weekend at Galloway Activity Centre near Castle Douglas. A mixture of climbing and Corbett bagging were the main activities. The weather wasn’t the best but it didn’t stop anyone from having fun.

Lairig Ghru – 7th September
With gale force winds forecast for the summits, this year’s traverse (S to N) through the Lairig Ghru was a good choice, as it kept us out of the worst of the wind.17 of us started at Linn o’ Dee. Derry Lodge was reached in good time, and there the 3 runners amongst us nipped […]

Knoydart – 15th August
The club spent a fabulous few days in Knoydart in August with some of our members camping high despite the midges! This is a special place with such a friendly and welcoming community.

Ben Macdui – 9th August
Our Ben Macdui trip saw high winds hinder progress, with the group heading for the top deciding to turn back from Cairn Lochan, head past Lurcher’s Crag and finally get a sheltered break in the Chalamain Gap. A second group made it over and down Coire Raibert to the Shelter Stone, then back via Coire […]

Tarf hotel overnighter – 19/20 July
With a yellow warning of rain, and the tall ships ahoy in Aberdeen, fortunately a few stout and seaworthy pirates disdained the joys of queuing an hour for a 20 quid burger down at the docks and headed off inland for adventure. Starting off at Glen Tilt car park we passed a race in progress […]

Jura camping – 11/12 July
Four happy campers set off on the ferry from Tayvallich to Jura on a scorching hot Friday all set for an attack of the 3 paps of Jura. The campsite sits directly in front of the hotel (re-hydration was the order of the weekend) and luckily the Jura hotel bar was our saviour on a number […]

This is a test excerpt for Beinn a Ghlo that is in addition to the text that is in the main body of this post

The Mournes NI – 13/14 June
After a ferry over to the Mourne Mountains to meet our local rep Martina, we travelled up from the south east corner of Ireland. We stayed in the Belfast Climbing Club hut, Henry’s Cottage, which is rustic and basic at best, but did grow on us over the weekend. Saturday was soggy, but with a […]

Beinn a Bhuird – 25th May
Despite high wind, Sunday saw most of the high and low route variations used on our Beinn a Bhuird day trip: a wee scramble up A’Chioch, Carn na Criche and Carn na Drochaide, and traversal of Glens Slugain and Quoich. On route visits were made to a secret place, an old air crash site and […]

Skye – May
Skye is never less than awesome, but when you get a cracking spell of weather too.. With sunshine and spectacular views all around, hills tackled on the Friday included Sgurr na Banachdaich, Sgurr a’ Ghreadaigh and Glamaig. A trio undertook a traverse of the Cuillin ridge, climbing the northern half including Sgurr na Gillian , […]

Glen Esk to Glen Clova – 27th April
Our day meet from Glen Esk to Glen Clova was briefly scenic heading past Loch Lee and up beyond the Falls of Unich, before we entered a dreich grey void higher up. Even on a bleak, low visibility day there’s something of interest to find off the beaten path – in this case an old […]

Lochnagar – Sunday 12th January
After a few years of this January trip being smashed by high wind, all turned out great this time and a cracking day was enjoyed with better than expected wind and visibility. The snow was great quality and there was just the right amount. After summitting and enjoying some mulled wine, we had an unexpected […]

Bennachie night nav – Tue 26th November
Fourteen of us made an evening ascent of Bennachie with 5 choosing to hike and the rest to practice their night navigation skills. Temperatures were below zero but Storm Bert had well and truly past so we had a clear night. A thick frost on top had a few wondering if microspikes were in order. […]

Corgarff to Invercauld – 24-26 May
We set off from Corgarff on Friday heading west, serenaded by the glen’s lapwings. At Laggangauld our resident botanist enjoyed a flush of wildflowers before we headed south along the Builg burn, first exploring a small gorge and then making camp. We had an evening jaunt up another gorge on the Allt Gaineimh. The next […]

Ben Macdui snowholing – 30th March
Recces earlier in the winter hadn’t revealed much snow depth, but a window of good weather after a late snowfall had a party heading out to the norther corries. Although a suitable spot was found at a popular location, they decided to explore further and after carefully navigating through a white out, the weather cleared […]

Carn an t-Sagairt Mor 16.3.24
After a grey week it was great to set off under blue skies up through Ballochbuie Forest. Three split off from the main group to traverse to Glen Callater via the Meall an t-Slugain gap and Loch Phadruig, the main party continuing out of the forest and across the river (this time without any drama […]

Winter Skills Rothiemurchus 3/4/5 February
Our accommodation for the winter skills weekend was the spacious rooms of Rothiemurchus lodge, where we assembled and prepared equipment before tucking in to a communal feast. Next day, the trainees headed off first into Coire an t-Sneachda, then over to Coire na Ciste to practice ice-axe arrests, under the expert eye of Everest and […]
